In a recent TV advertisement, we see Danny Trejo standing in a coffee shop serving a distraught female customer – is that one of his many food enterprises? I don’t know but this great Mexican-American actor and producer is rapidly adding to his growing food enterprises.

He has opened a self-titled cantina next to the Pasadena Playhouse. Danny opened “Trejo’s Cantina-Pasadena” in the beginning of June 2017. The Pasadena location will be the second cantina joining Trejo’s Cantina-Hollywood.

In May 2017, Mr. Trejo also opened his popular hot pink Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts, located just blocks from Hollywood Boulevard and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The neighborhood coffee and donut shop joins the continued expansion with Danny Trejo’s Taco location in Los Angeles, all of which are family-oriented food eateries. Business lunch restaurant people eating meal

His new restaurant Trejo’s Cantina in Pasadena offers a relaxing sit-down version of the fast-food casual Trejo’s Taco. Larry Fink, a spokesman for the company reports that Trejo’s Cantina has an extensive list of craft beers and a large selection of food.

Trejo’s Cantina-Pasadena offers a unique menu separate from those found at his Hollywood restaurant, because this menu is specific to the Pasadena location! The reasonably priced menu features a wide variety of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, bowl designed dishes, quesadillas, salads, appetizers, and desserts. Trejo’s Cantina-Pasadena restaurant is presently only serving lunch between 11:00am and 4:00pm. According to Danny Trejo’s Twitter account, the public loves his food locales.

Trejo says he’s not just trading on the success of his name. “There’s been a lot of celebrities that have tried to open up restaurants, but they kind of try to just go on the name. I don’t care who you are – food better be good.” “We’re doing good. … I think it’s the food.”

Danny began his eatery enterprise with the opening of Trejo’s Taco eatery in May 2016 on La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, where he caters to vegans and vegetarians and people who want gluten-free.” Continuing the tradition today, Trejo said that a few tofu dishes are served at Trejo’s Taco and no can tell the difference. The only comment he receives on his menu options are that they are all delicious!

Let’s not forget the Trejo’s taco truck that is present at every Rams home game. Trejo is a longtime and well-known Rams fan. In a recent interview, Mr. Trejo was asked why he chose the restaurant industry. He responded by noting that his mother (Alice Rivera) was a cook who always wanted to open a family-style restaurant.

Trejo said that one day when he was making a movie with producer Ash Shah, they began talking about their favorite food dishes at different restaurants. Shah jokingly said let’s open one and call it Trejo’s Tacos. Now, a few years later, Trejo is one-third of a restaurant partnership with film producers Ash and Jeff Georgino.

Danny said that the restaurants made great business sense and so far, it is the best investment that he has ever made. However, the 5 food locations that Trejo owns is just the beginning. Trejo and his partners are making future plans to take Trejo’s Taco nationwide as part of a bid to become a $100 million company.

Trejo further stated that working in the food industry is not just about making a fast buck. It’s about waking up and signing every autograph, taking every photo, and shaking everybody’s hand because he feels he has a responsibility to do that. He said if it wasn’t for his fans, or Jeff or Ash, all of his success would have happened.

Georgino reports that he, Danny, and Ash would like to build up the retail side of the business. When Trejo and his partners started, it wasn’t about having a handful of restaurants in California, it is and will be about building a national business.

Trejo’s Pasadena cantina replaces the RedWhite+Bluezz Restaurant which opened in 2006 and whose menu featured fine wine, chef-inspired food dishes and nightly entertainment. The restaurant was originally owned by Andre Vener and changed hands to the Playhouse Restaurant Group in 2013.

RedWhite+Bluezz was popularized as a jazz club and restaurant attached to the Pasadena Playhouse. However, it closed quite suddenly and also removed its identity on its website. The club and restaurant was known for live performances and was a regular stop for guests attending shows at the playhouse.

People learned about the closing of the RedWhite+Bluezz due to a sign posted on its door by the owners. The sign simply read that the owners “decided to take a new and exciting direction that is more suited to the changing demographic of the Pasadena Playhouse District.” The Playhouse Restaurant Group could not be reached for comment. The sign concluded by reading, “We thank you for your patronage and look forward to sharing our new vision with you.”
